Exceedance Expectations!: Melbourne Water’s rainfall planning, management & response improved with a near real time rainfall exceedance dashboard in HydroNET
Melbourne Water have an extensive stormwater and drainage network that assists them in managing the impacts of significant rainfall events. These are designed to certain standards, and readily available rainfall event duration and exceedance information (e.g If a forecast or observed storm is expected to exceed a 1 in 20 or 5% annual exceedance probability (AEP)) can help Melbourne Water to plan for, respond to and report on these events and their impacts.
Water Technology are very happy to announce the launch of the new Rainfall Exceedance Dashboard for Melbourne Water, utilising the HydroNET API for all data connections, including the HydroNET-Scout rain gauge adjusted radar rainfall data.
This fully cloud-based solution provides simple, yet effective, visualisation of the forecasted and observed rainfall exceedance information in near real time. Exceedance information is calculated for various durations per rain gauge and sub-catchment for:
- The BoM ADFD 50%, 25% and 10% chance forecasts
- The BoM high resolution short term NowCast
- Melbourne Water’s rain gauges
- The HydroNET gauge adjusted radar rainfall data, aggregated to the major sub catchments of Melbourne Water.
Users can also download the data for external use and search the historical data for rainfall events with duration and exceedance criteria. These events and durations can then be visualised in the dashboard.
